Hermes P.S. I Silk You, Postcard for Charity in Singapore

The P.S. I Silk You postcard is both a celebration of individual style, as well as a way to remind your friends of how much they mean to you. The photograph on the front of the postcard captures your own unique look in Hermès silk, while the back has sentences left open for you to compose a personal note of friendship, love and encouragement to your family and friends.

F1 Singapore Grand Prix 2009 - Beyonce live in Singapore

Underworld, NERD, No Doubt, Linsay Lohan, Black eyed peas, Beyonce, Will.i.am., Samantha Ronson, Lewis Hamilton, and Nicole Scherzinger.

One word:

Gwen Stefani in what resembles Style Damsel's White Tuxedo Jacket.

Beyonce performing the song, " If I were a boy".

Awesome.

Still very much in shock that Beyonce was here, and did my all-time favourite song, "Smash into you". You'll notice that she brought along her world tour band and powerful lungs with her.

Thanks jethron5000 for the footage.

Kudos to the organisors for the Singapore GP, F1 Rocks, and Fuel Party.

Where to find good Fashion Books?

Over the weekend, someone who barely knows me gave this to me as a gift. It's one of those fashion-related books that you can rarely find on typical shelves of the bookstores here. So unsurprisingly, it was the last one standing at Kinokuniya (one of the better ones that brings in a reasonable range of good fashion books).

Dior by Dior The Autobiography of Christian Dior

We know it can be a pain looking for good fashion books in Singapore, they are either too commercialised, or overly reprinted and copied. But if you really love fashion books, try making a trip down to Basheer or PageOne at Vivocity, the offerings are quite impressive with the former giving discount to existing fashion students!

For Ages 4 and Up (A Solo Exhibition by Aiman Hakim)

In his first solo exhibition, Aiman explores the ‘absurd’ notion of self-individuation, in a culture where communal ideologies still dominate. His works involve the repeated use of iconic representations of ‘a perfect man’ in different stages of his life - various Ken dolls that have been generated over the years, ranging from vintage to the very recent. A personal friend of ours, Aiman has always been in love with his oil paints and canvases. Ages 4 and up marks a milestone in Aiman's artistic vision and identifies with his perseverance for leaving the corporate world to do what he truly is passionate about - Art.
This is an invitation to all Style Damsel readers to catch the artist's interpretation of an innocent world from the eyes of a child.

Dr. Martens Opens First Concept Store In Singapore

Look up, Doc Mart fans! Dr. Martens has announced the opening of its first concept store in Singapore. The 90 square-meter retail space, located on the third floor of the newly opened Orchard Central, will open its doors in mid August. (It's about time, isn't it?) The store will showcase Dr. Martens full collection of men’s and women's footwear available each season, as well as sneak previews of upcoming styles.

“We are delighted to launch our concept store in the heart of the Orchard Road shopping district,” said Ian Tan, General Manager of Dr. Martens Singapore. “Dr. Martens is experiencing a strong comeback worldwide and we are seeing growing interest and sales in Singapore in recent years. The opening of the concept store here symbolises a new beginning and hails the return of an icon. Fans of Dr. Martens can look forward to a fun-filled experience.”

Richly steeped in British heritage and tradition, the Dr. Martens concept store will present customers with a unique atmosphere and shopping experience. The exterior design of the shop, modelled after the Neal Street flagship store in London (see image below), sports a truly British street look. Adding to the ambiance is the distinct interior décor that uses furnishings closely related to English street culture. Expect to see Chesterfield sofas with deep-buttoned backrests, white brick walls and even a customised Vespa!

To promote local creative talents, the concept store will include a regularly updated “inspiration corner” to showcase original works by invited artistes. Another section of the store will be dedicated to displaying charismatic and beautiful photos of fashionable patrons.

Isn't it cool to be a student?

Not only do you get to enjoy free entry to special exhibitions in the museums, you get discounted prices for Macdonald's student meal, travel on concession rates, engage in cheap mobile plans (plus free campus calls which was non-existence during our time), and all these on top of skipping lectures as and when you feel like it (unlike working...)

So hurry down to any River Island store today to feed that inner geek with a brand new wardrobe.

Lady Gaga in Singapore

Lady Gaga is here in Singapore for Singtel AMPed's launch event happened just hours ago.

She constantly gets people guessing what she will be wearing. Perhaps she heard so much conservative stories about the red dot, that she ditched her bubble-girl and space suit outfit for a full black ensemble.

Somehow the snake-like headgear and enhanced lower lashes (she had a one-piece gaga shade before that) looked very good on her.

Bigger and Butter!

The new Butter Factory is officially opened!

And yes, they brought our cute friends over too!

Over at Fash, the view overlooked the skyscrappers and the half-completed Integrated Resort of Singapore. Familiar faces from local Poptart scenes were spotted behind the DJ console, while dancing to the unlikely tunes of DJ Sunderland, The Killers, and Whitney Housten.

The music at Bump was doped! If you love Kat Deluna, Ciara, Mos Def, Ne-yo, and the likes one after another, this is the place to be (But warning: You might not have enough place to stand!)

The couple of things that we probably didn't like was how terrible the queue to order any drinks at the members' area was; Terrible enough for the waiters to not come back with any drinks after taking your money - Twice. The smoking room was nothing like those in Changi Airport. There was no ventilation and indeed smoky; you'd rather take a puff at the connector, just before you turn into Forlino restaurant.

Nonetheless, the place continues to be our playground, Bobby and Ritz still play dress-up, while Adrian remains our fave:)
