Chanel Cruise collection 2013/14

We are no Versaille, but the beautiful people at the house of Chanel has chosen Singapore to showcase the esteem label's cruise collection and premiere of short film.

What an honour.

The 15-minute film which was screened at Raffles Hotel last night portrayed the humble beginnings and success of Coco Chanel, the brainchild behind the double Cs, acted by Keira Knightley.

Tonight's cruise collection will be held at the heritage Leowen building of Dempsey Hill.

LVMH buys Charles and Keith

You probably wouldn't have guessed what's the latest investment made by LVMH's private equity arm, L Capital Asia. For more than $30 million, LVMH is now the proud 20% owner of home-grown shoe label, Charles & Keith. After a resounding success of it's 2009 bought over of Sincere Watch for $113 Million, the regional investment firm look to help the Wong brothers in their expansion plans into US, Western Europe, and Asia.

Charles & Keith Spring Summer 2011: Via charleskeith.com

On a fashion note, I am absolutely no fan of copied, poor-quality shoes that bites into your feet after first wear and ready for the trash after the 20th parade. However, on a business stand-point, I've got to give it to the brothers for their unhidden success and finding the niche for their mass-produced business strategy.

Sarah Burton for Alexander Mcqueen S/S 2011

It all happened when I was in Milan, all eyes were on Sarah Burton, as she brought on her first major Alexander Mcqueen show during the Spring/Summer 2011 Paris Fashion Week. Big shoes to fit indeed, but we couldn't agree more with PPR's decision in appointing the late designer's right hand woman to be the creative director of the distinct label.

When Burton first spoke about the then upcoming collection last month about being less "angsty" and "softer", I thought it was just a "disclaimer", in case it didn't "fit" into the taste of existing Mcqueen fans or the whole strategic expectations play. To be honest, I thought the collection was spectacular, reflecting Mcqueen's spirit and essence with bold statements and intricate structuring. The line showed how closely Burton and Mcqueen worked together and understood each other during the last 14 years.

Straw bustier, ostrich feathers, butterflies, trademark digital prints and woven hair, just the way the founder would have done it.

New York Fashion Week - Spring 2011 Goes Nude

All the swirls of nudes and blacks whipping up New York Fashion Week is making me crave for cookies and cream ice-cream.

Just 5 years back, I would never have thought myself spending 30 minutes flipping through Herve Leger's collection. Back then, there were only a few things I looked for in "good designers" - "Dark", smart tailoring, and dramatic appeal. That's why my projects always revolved around John Galliano, Ann Demeulemeester, and the late Alexander Mcqueen.

But today, I can unabashly declare that I'm beginning to appreciate the likes of Herve Leger and Tory Burch.

The neutral shades along with beautiful line-works and carefully paired fabrications brought out the extra touch in his range of flowy dresses.

At the Spring 2011 fashion shows, Leger wasn't the only one going all-naturale. Marchesa displayed a range of well-draped tulle gowns while Jenny Packham did hers in embellished sheer fabrics.

Hua Hin getaway

So it was decided, Hua hin, a 3-hour drive down South of Bangkok, Thailand.
I threw all doubts on the famous beach destination the moment I saw Alila Resort's arm in Cha-am. In the end, we checked ourselves into AKA resorts, a surreal all-villa resort and spa place that's situated admist the organic farm and infamous golf course just 15-mins away from the city.

We wouldn't deny using El's birthday as an excuse for this well-deserved getaway since we spent mine the month before on a staycay at Amara Santuary that was really really really bad (that was all before we found out that Capella offers us corporate rate at half of what we spent in Amara - oh, and if you are thinking of booking a really good villa stay with Amara, please don't!)

Funny how this has morphed into a travel blog more than being fashion-centric. Hope you don't mine.

Back to Hua-hin.

You really have to be there to soak up the good crisp air. It's a place for you to not think about anything. Not forgetting that Hua Hin is the home to Chiva-som, world's reknown luxury health resort.

Everyday is spent lazing in the well-furnished villa; renting DVDs from the conceirge and ordering room service of ice-cold lemongrass drinks that compliments the sweltering weather, soaking up the sun and watching it tucking into the clouds every evening at the cabana upstairs.

Of course you can bring out your inner Tiger Woods (no, not that) by driving up the range for some golfing action with the well-trained locals or engaged in yoga by the sea. And if you are more adventurous, we would recommend you the extreme ATV (be warned that you will be covered in mud at the end), jungle trek on the friendly elephants, or just ride on the horses along their infamous beach. We rented a bike, Scoopy-O, the locals coined. It brought us places, and helped us steered clear from the restricted timings back to the resort.

It could just be that we ended up in really bad Thai-food places all the time, but frankly, their seafood and western food seemed to taste better. I love Livanto, especially after a 3-hour massage and spa indulgence at White Sands. Elsa loves the fresh seafood and dragon prawns that was surprisingly yummy if you had realised the stall front was just a push cart tuck along the cramped alley of the night market.

And if you are planning a trip there soon, I recommend huahin taxi to you. The owner and his drivers are highly reliable and it's value-for-money. Have Fun!

Kartell X Moschino

Furniture company Kartell has teamed up with fashion house Moschino to come up with the new plastic women’s shoes that feature a small bow. The shoes are industrially molded much like kartell’s furniture and are made using a 100% recyclable non-toxic thermoplastic.
The design resembles a single ribbon wrapped around the foot and finishing off with a distinct bow at the front. They come in a wide range of bright colours and will go on sale in january 2011.

Now, move over Melissa.

The Lasalle Show 2010

The LASALLE Show 2010 is back! Featuring works from Final year students from Design, Arts, Dance, etc.

It was my first time stepping foot in this state of the art building, I must say I'm pretty impressed with the architecture.

The graduate exhibition looks rather overpopulated and with some really interesting minds, veterans should just be very vary:).

Here are just some of my favourite B(A) showcases when I was there last Wed.

Wedding Bells

Viktor&Rolf

These months have been really crazy in the department of overwork.

Couldn't help but to miss all shows during Audi FW.

Someone special is getting hitched. The preparation of the off-white mermaid gown looks very impressive. Imported Italian duchess overlaid with delicate french lace, lined with fine European silk satin were some of the stuff I found hard to compromise.

I'm sure the couple would love me for that. Time for me to get back to the stitches, till then, have a great weekend!

Kmrii: Lui Onozaki

I've always taken fancy on unconventional treatments and techiniques used towards leather and other unheard of fabrics.

Lui Onozaki, creator of Kmrii, sticks to that mantra and never fails to produce intricate industrial-style hardwares with handmade qualities over the decade.
Perhaps not an overly popular brand in Singapore, where people only buy mainstream labels like Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Prada, Kmrii, in my opinion is highly under-rated;
Who would have thought having a grenade as an accessory would look uber cool?

Lasso Wallet, Patchwork leather with reptile texture and diamond cut-outs, USD 270

La Rhino, curved leather shoulder bag with brass studs and braided fringe, USD 783
